Create Your First Chatbot with ChatMazes

Creating your first AI chatbot with ChatMazes is simpler than you might think. In this guide, we'll walk you through the process step by step, so you can have your chatbot up and running in minutes.

This guide is the first in our series for new ChatMazes users. After completing this tutorial, you might want to explore:

Getting Started

After logging into your ChatMazes dashboard, you'll see the main navigation sidebar on the left. This is where you'll access all the features of the platform.

Step 1: Create a New Chatbot

  1. Click on Projects in the sidebar
  2. You'll see a grid view of your chatbots (empty if this is your first)
  3. Click the "Create New Chatbot" button (the card with a plus icon)
  4. Give your chatbot a name (e.g., "Customer Support Bot" or "Personal Assistant")
  5. Click Create

That's it! Your chatbot has been created and is ready for configuration.

Step 2: Connect Your Knowledge Base

A chatbot is only as smart as the information it has access to. Let's connect a knowledge base:

  1. Click on your newly created chatbot to open its settings
  2. In the Knowledge Base section, you can either:
    • Select an existing knowledge base if you've already created one
    • Create a new knowledge base by clicking the "+" button

We recommend starting with a new knowledge base for this tutorial. For detailed instructions on creating and managing knowledge bases, see our Setting Up Your Knowledge Base guide.

Step 3: Customize Your Chatbot's Personality

In the Appearance section, you can customize how your chatbot interacts with users:

  1. Set a Welcome Message - This is the first thing users see when they start chatting
  2. Add Ice Breaker Questions - These help users get started with suggestions
  3. Provide a Context Description - This helps the AI understand its role (e.g., "You are a helpful customer support assistant")

For detailed guidance on customizing these elements effectively, check out our Customizing Your Chatbot's Appearance guide.

Step 4: Make Your Chatbot Live

Once you've configured your chatbot, it's time to make it live:

  1. Look for the Live/Offline toggle at the top of the chatbot settings page
  2. Switch it to Live mode
  3. Your chatbot is now active!

Step 5: Connect to Messaging Platforms

To make your chatbot accessible to users, connect it to messaging platforms:

  1. Go to the Integrations tab in the sidebar
  2. Choose from available platforms like Telegram, Instagram, or Facebook
  3. Follow the platform-specific setup instructions
  4. Connect your newly created integration to your chatbot in the chatbot's settings

Your Chatbot is Ready!

Congratulations! You've successfully created your first chatbot. Users can now interact with it through your connected messaging platforms or via the web widget.

Remember, chatbots get smarter over time. As you add more information to your knowledge base and observe how users interact with your bot, you can continuously improve its responses and capabilities.
